Back to Basics

It can be so complicated.  This expert telling you that their diet is the best on the planet.  That pharmaceutical company selling the “world’s number one weight loss pill.”  Late night TV commercials all saying they have the answer to all of your health woes.

It’s confusing.

It’s frustrating.

It’s annoying.

I get it. I was right there with you.  Why even try to get healthy when the experts can’t even agree on what healthy is.  That’s why it’s time to get back to basics in health.  Remember, before anything or anyone, there was God.  He put everything you need on this planet to live a healthy, and happy, life.  People and technology have come along and complicated it all.  Let’s look at a few ways to get back to the way God intended it.

1. Go for whole, natural foods rather than overly-sugarfied, processed foods.

We’re talking lots of fruits and veggies in their raw, living form.  Think back on your week.  How much raw, living food has your body enjoyed?  Fresh fruits and veggies are loaded with the living enzymes our bodies need to thrive.  So, eat a rainbow of colors.  See if you can get every color on your plate.

2. Enjoy pure, clean water.

As a society, we drink so many chemical-induced beverages that it’s no wonder we have so many health problems.  Almost anything you drink, besides water, is actually dehydrating your body.  Those beverages are also loaded with sugar, creating an acidic environment in our bodies…the perfect place for disease to grow.  So, go for the simplicity of water.  If you want to spice it up a bit, infuse it with fresh fruit or an ingestible essential oil like lemon or grapefruit.

3. Remember the “No Label” rule.

Whenever you’re eating things with no labels, you’re eating healthier.  Think about it.  Fruits and veggies have no labels.  Just about everything else in the grocery store does.  So, I challenge you to do a “No Label” day where you consume only things with no labels.  Your body will enjoy the change.  And, this really simplifies your shopping trip, too.  You get to stay in the produce section and don’t have to think about fighting the crowds in the aisles upon aisles of processed foods!  Woohoo!!  (If you DO eat food with labels, the fewer the ingredients, the better.)

4. Grow a garden!

What better way to get back to basics and close to nature?  Get your kids involved, too!  This shows them exactly where our food comes from.  And, when they help you tend the garden, from planting the seeds to harvest time, they will be more likely to enjoy the wholesome goodness of fruits and veggies.

5. Don’t forget to sleep.

Your body refreshes overnight, so you must get consistently good sleep.  Without it, you are more likely to gain weight and get sick.  If you’re not sleeping well, it is important to get to the bottom of what’s keeping you awake and find a way to sleep.  See?   Health is not so complicated!

Oh, and one last thing…

Always remember that YOU are the expert on YOU.

Simple as that.  No one else lives in your body.  So, eat consciously and think about how you feel.  What’s right for someone else may not be right for you.  Listen to your body and make choices that give you energy and happiness.
